PYP Exhibition’s Field Trip
On the 6th of April 2017, primary 6 students and teachers went to SDN3 and orphanage. The purpose we went there is because it’s our part of learning for our PYP Exhibition. A day before this, we took donations from primary 1-6 and wrapped some for SDN3 and packed the donations for the orphanage. After wrapping the things, we continued making the information board. The next day, we put the donations into the bus. We also brought our information board with us. Then, we went to lobby and sat there and listened to principal’s message. After that, we went into the bus and we started our trip to SDN3 and orphanage.
When we arrived to SDN3, Mdm Agustin, the teachers there and Nicholas delivered their speeches. The speeches were about the purpose why we go there. Then, we are given one class per group and we presented our information in the class we were assigned. We presented our research in primary 3B. The students there are nice but they were a little bit shy. After our presentation, we taught them how to make pencil holder using card board box, origami, glue, and tissue roll. We provided the things for them.
After distributing the materials, we taught them step by step. Some students asked how, but some do it well. The teacher there also help us to explain it. After they have done with the pencil holder, we collected our things and put them in our box. Then, some of my teachers shared gifts to them. We shook hands to say thank you for listening or participating in our activity. After that, we went to the school yard. We took some pictures together. After that, we have a permission to go then we went to the bus. Next will be the orphanage but before going there, we went to Tanggoe to lunch. We waited for our food. Carbonara is the longest. After all the food were served, we ate it. Then we were free.
Clea, Cindy, and I went to the King Crab. I took some pictures there. It was fun. But they didn’t want me to take their photos. Then, Natasha came and I took some photos with her while the boys were standing there, doing nothing. If you would ask what the teachers were doing, they were talking. Some of our classmates were eating pizza and drinking some drinks they ordered.
After a few minutes, the teachers asked us to go to the bus. We went to the orphanage. We arrived there around thirty minutes. When we arrived, some of my classmates were shouting because there were some dogs walking around. The dog is cute. I liked it. When the bus stopped, some students ran over to the dog. The dog kept on barking.
Then, I saw all of my classmates started to carry out the donations. I also helped them. And when I wanted to tell something very excited, then I fell down because I’m in a rush. After sometimes, we all went inside the building. The orphanage building is big. We sat on the chair to listened to Mdm. Agustin, Mr. Ronald, and the person in charge orphanage with their messages. Then, we all stood up and sung a song. But not all us sung. After that, we gave our donations to them. Then, the person in charge of the orphanage showed us the different parts of the building. But before that, we took some pictures with the children there.
While the person in charge of the orphanage was showing us the different rooms, I took some pictures. We met some dog in the area. There were two puppies playing and four dogs walking around. Then, we took some photos with the children again. After that, Jojo took one of the puppy and took a picture of it. Some students took some pictures of the dogs too.
Then, we went back to the bus. We were talking so loud. It is past three and some of our parents were asking what time will we go back to school. Finally, the bus is moving. On the way, Clea pointed to me where her house is. While Cindy is listening to music from her phone. After we arrived on the school, we asked permission from our teachers to go home.

I learnt how to teach younger students. I felt very happy but also tired because the students in SDN3 were so nice. That makes me happy.

Spine Breaking Art Festival

Last November 2016, Primary 6 had a bazaar and performance to celebrate the PYP Art Festival. The performance and bazaar was held in the parking lot. We were divided into 3 groups and did a lot of preparations. My group was in charge of the food stand, while the other 2 groups were in charge of drinks and games stand. The money we earned will be used for PYP exhibition and field trip. Primary 6 Reflection studentswere also involved in this activity.
My stand’s name was Food Wich, I was the one who made the name. Firstly, my group planned what we were going to sell for the bazaar. After sometime, we decided to sell cup noodles, five nuggets in a pack, fried rice, sandwich, cotton candy and snacks like taro, twistko, french fries, etc. Secondly, we decided the price for every food we were going to sell. Then, we discussed who were going to buy the foods. Next, everyone in the group designed brochures and banners. But the teachers only chose the best banner to be hung up in the stand. Then, we printed the brochures we made and we gave out the brochures to the primary students and sticked them on the wall using yellow tape. So that it would not harm the school properties because yellow tape is not really sticky. But some people tore my class’ brochures. However, next class’ brochures were not torn. We still have not known the cause to this incident.
The girls in my class decided to perform cup song for the PYP art festival performance, while the boys decided to perform mini me performance. We practiced a lot. In my opinion, the cup song was very hard, because the movements were too fast for me. But my friends found it easy. In the middle of the practice, my friends and I brought the chairs for the guests to sit and watch the performance down to the parking lot. It was very tiring yet so fun. Then, we continued practicing so that we could improve our skills and show it to the guests.
After all those preparations, the day of the art festival had come. The first day was fun; we sold almost all of the food and gained lots of profits. But the second day, our sales decreased because the school invited too many sponsors; as a result, less customers bought our food. For example, the cotton candies, most of them were not sold and shrank into small tiny shapes so we were forced to sell it 60% cheaper than the normal price. Even if we tried to sell it cheaper, there were still no buyers. Then, we tried to sell it 80% cheaper which made it cost only Rp 2000. Still, there were leftovers, so I decided to buy it for the group.
We performed well in both the cup song and the mini me performance. Everyone clapped their hands and laughed a lot. I was very happy to finally be able to perform the cup song perfectly. We did not get troubles and everything went smoothly. I was very relieved.
The PYP Art festival was an amazing experience to me. I learned how to serve customers, sell some products, cooperate and communicate with people. I realize it is important to work hard in our life and handle difficult situations such as the cotton candy incident. I am really grateful to the school which gave me the chance to learn new things in life.

An Orphan Life
Let me ask you, what is an orphan ? That is a question that I will answer and deepen and also make you think.
An orphan is a child who is abandoned by their parents because the parents don't love the child, they don't have enough money to raise the child, or because the child was in the middle of a big conflict like war. Orphans live in the orphanage which is a place where the orphans have fun, learn, and are raised with other children.
Did you know that UNICEF ( United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund) estimates, there are17.900.000 orphans who have lost both parents and are living in orphanages or on the streets and lack the care and attention. And in the U.S. 400.500 children are living with out permanent. 115.000 of these children are eligible for adoption, but nearly 40% of these children will have to wait for at least three years being adopted. Every day, 5.760 more children become orphans. It is estimated there are between 143 million and 210 million orphans worldwide.
n    The issues around orphans are a lot. Let me tell you some. Orphans who are living in the orphanage have an IQ 20 points lower. A study showed that 60% of the girl orphans become prostitutes and 70% of the boy orphans become hardened criminals.Another study also showed that 10%-15% of the orphans commit suicide before they reach the age of eighteen. Each year, over 27.000 youth age out of foster care without the emotional and financial support. Nearly 25% of youth aging out did not have a high school diploma. Those are the issues I could find out.
Now, for the solutions. You and your friends could make a donation for the local orphanages in your city or town. This solution can be done if you have time. You could also make posters. You could also volunteer teaching the orphans if you want. That's all I can tell you.
In conclusion, I found out that orphans are children that have been abandoned by their parents because of various reasons and they live in the orphanage. And the issues around the orphans could be solved by doing simple solutions because simple and small things create a big difference.
